The barista plays a crucial role in creating a delicious and appealing cup of coffee by mastering the principles of extraction and honing exceptional skills.


  • Incorrect Temperature: Water that is too hot can increase the amount of bitter compounds extracted from the coffee, while water that is too cool can result in under-extraction, leading to a bitter, dry, and bland cup.

  • Improper Extraction Time: Insufficient extraction time can result in coffee that lacks flavor, sweetness, and body, while over-extraction can produce bitterness.

  • Incorrect Pressure Adjustment: Especially for espresso, improper pressure adjustment can lead to poor-quality coffee due to under or over-extraction.

  • Wrong Grind Size and Grinder Consistency: Poor grind size and inconsistent grinding can lead to uneven extraction, resulting in an imbalanced cup of coffee.

  • Improper Coffee-to-Water Ratio: An incorrect coffee-to-water ratio can affect the quality of extraction, resulting in coffee that is either too strong or too weak.

  • Neglecting Coffee Machine Maintenance: A coffee machine that is not cleaned and maintained properly can reduce extraction performance and quality.

In summary, not understanding the principles of coffee extraction can lead to various issues and result in a poor cup of coffee.

"COVID initiated an unexpected crisis, causing the world to stall and shut down. Thus, we must live slower and capture the best moments in the darkest of times. I wondered whether my love for coffee has ripened over this period. I began devoting my time and passion towards researching the field of specialty coffee. I realized the value of coffee is more than just caffeine. If you could experience every stage of the coffee value chain, from the early plantations to a cup of coffee, you will feel the same way as i do. This is the biggest motivation for us to pursue our dream of bringing high-quality Robusta beans to coffee lovers around the world. Trust me!
